The child is not aware of the use of register. In other words, the child is not aware of the correct tones and language suitable to addressing an adult or someone in a position of authority. Inform the child gently that his/her manner of speaking to you was inappropriate, that talking to a child is different from talking to a teacher, and model a more suitable form of calling for attention. Example 2. The child is missing a range of language forms that express questions. He is not familiar with forming more than a basic question.
