Two of his pieces—a hooped tunic with harem pants (left) and a tunic of gold lamé and purple silk satin—were part of the Poiret: King of Fashion exhibition held in 2007 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. Poiret is one of several fashion designers whom Anna Sui admires. Anna Sui’s Inspirations designs until he built a reputation for himself as a cuttingedge fashion talent. He deliberately stayed away from the tailored, tightly fitting look that was popular during his time, opting to design dresses and clothing that allowed women more freedom of movement, such as his famous kimono dress and harem pants.

She also has an agreement with Kohl’s stores to design a houseware and linen collection. Mary Ping is another young designer making her name known in Manhattan’s fashion circles. Born in New York in 1978, Ping attended Vassar College; during her college years, she designed costumes for the drama department and also worked for some well-known New York designers, including Sui. Like Vera Wang, Ping is focused on the elegance of her designs, wanting each one to have its own beauty. ” In May 1997, Sui opened a boutique in Tokyo, modeled after the Greene Street store.
